K21045 SCP01 Fire extinguishing generators based on the extinguishing medium nitrogen
Receive a quote tailored to your needs
Nitrogen is a clean and effective extinguishing agent for Class A fires (solid materials), Class B fires (flammable liquids), and Class C fires (flammable gases). A nitrogen generator assembly produces sufficient nitrogen to function as a fire suppression system. These systems are highly effective in situations where fires must be extinguished rapidly and physical damage minimized. They are commonly used in switch cabinets, technical rooms, and small storage areas for hazardous substances , always in combination with fast fire detection.
This specific certification program SCP01 defines the requirements for testing condensed nitrogen generators and provides minimum testing protocols. The nitrogen released can pose a potential hazard to personnel in the protected area and must be addressed in the system’s safety and instruction documentation. Additionally, the high temperature of the released nitrogen must be evaluated prior to installation.
Why was SCP01 developed?
This certification program specifically addresses nitrogen produced by generators using a solid condensed compound, which is converted into gaseous nitrogen. Testing is typically conducted in a 100 m³ room. Since an N2 generator delivers less extinguishing agent than a comparable aerosol generator, SCP01 is focused on smaller spaces. Therefore, the test room size in ‘SCP01 N2 Generators’ has been adjusted to 33 m³.
Applicable Standards
As there is no dedicated standard for nitrogen generators, this program is based on relevant sections of standards for condensed aerosol systems:
- EN 15276-1: Specifies requirements and test methods for condensed aerosol extinguishing system components
- ISO 15779: Condensed aerosol fire extinguishing systems - Requirements and test methods for components and system design, installation and maintenance - General requirements
Additionally, various parts of EN 15004, specifically Part 1 and Part 8, are used.

Why Kiwa Fire Safety & Security?
Kiwa Fire Safety & Security (Kiwa FSS) is an independent and reliable Certification and Inspection body for certifying companies and inspecting installations in the field of fire and burglary protection. A Kiwa certificate gives a justified confidence in the quality of the certified company, product or installations. This can provide a selection advantage for clients and reduce any failure costs.

K21045 Fire Protection Systems
The K21045 Fire Protection Systems is the assessment scheme for testing, inspection and certification (TIC) of fixed fire protection systems. This scheme therefore focuses primarily on manufacturers, installers and maintenance companies and offers these parties the opportunity to deliver products and services with verifiably a high degree of quality assurance within the wide range of fixed fire protection systems. But end users also have an interest in a conclusive quality chain. The objective of this TIC scheme K21045 is to improve safety and security through uniform application of the relevant international standards relating to fire protection systems.
