Kiwa NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 product certificate for drinking water system components – Health effects

Nearly all U.S. states and Canadian provinces/territories require that components of drinking water distribution systems comply with and/or be certified to the NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 standard. This standard sets minimum criteria for evaluating the health effects of materials, components, products and systems that come into contact with drinking water.

For whom is NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certification?

NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 is intended for manufacturers who want to demonstrate that their product meets minimum criteria for health effects and is accepted in North America and Canada.

Products that fall under this standard include:

  • Protective barrier materials (cements, paints, coatings);
  • Bonding and sealing materials (gaskets, adhesives, lubricants);
  • Mechanical equipment, including treatment products (water meters, valves, filters);
  • Pipes and related products (pipes, hoses, fittings);
  • Plumbing equipment (faucets, drinking fountains);
  • Process media (filter media, ion exchange resins);
  • Non-metallic drinking water materials.

About Kiwa NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certification

Kiwa is ISO/IEC 17065 accredited and recognized by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to enable manufacturers to demonstrate full compliance with the NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 standard. Our accreditation status and accredited scope are displayed at ANAB accreditation Kiwa Nederland.

Our evaluation guideline K15007 is tailored to include all relevant product evaluation, testing and production process assessment requirements which are used by Kiwa as basis for issuing and maintaining a certificate for drinking water system components, based on NSF/ANSI/CAN 61. Annual testing and inspections ensure continued consistency of the required quality level.
