Benefits of Barrier Testing at Silverstone

Enhanced Safety: Regular risk assessments and testing identifies and addresses potential safety issues before they can lead to accidents, ensuring a safer environment for all spectators.

Compliance with Regulations: Adhering to Chapter 11 of the “Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds Sixth Edition 2018” ensures that Silverstone meets the highest safety standards.

Peace of Mind: Fans can enjoy the thrilling races with confidence, knowing that their safety is a top priority.

The recent barrier tests at Silverstone were conducted on the BRDC Stand, COPSE Stand, Lakeside Stand, and Luffield Stand.  All tests were performed in accordance with Chapter 11 of the “Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds,” Sixth Edition, 2018, which involved applying test loads centrally between supports using hydraulic cylinders. The loads were measured with a calibrated pressure gauge, and deflection was monitored using dial gauges at the point of maximum movement.

Each test included a bedding cycle conforming to the design force, followed by two applications of the test load. The deflection and recovery data were then used to assess compliance with the safety specifications.

Results: All barriers tested at Silverstone Race Circuit were found to comply with the required safety standards, ensuring that the venue remains a safe and secure place for fans to continue to enjoy world-class racing events.
