EN 16510: New Standards for Solid Fuel Appliances in the UK
The EN 16510 standard has undergone major revisions, and the UK is now aligning with Europe under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). These changes affect manufacturers of residential solid fuel appliances, including:
- Room heaters
 - Inset appliances
 - Cookers
 - Independent boilers
 - Wood pellet-fed heaters

What’s Changing?
The updated EN 16510 series introduces:
- A modular structure: EN 16510-1 outlines general testing methods, while parts 2-1 to 2-6 cover specific appliance types.
 - New testing requirements for NOx, hydrocarbons (OGC), and particulate matter (PM).
 - Energy efficiency labelling and seasonal heating performance specifications.
 - Alignment with European Ecodesign Regulations.
 - Replacement of five older standards for solid fuel appliances.

Transition Timeline
Within the UK a 24-month transition period is in place until 26 September 2027. During this time, products can remain on the market using original test reports. After that, UKCA or CE marking must be based on type testing to EN 16510.
Why Act Now?
Re-testing and type testing can be time-consuming. Manufacturers are advised to begin the transition early to avoid delays and ensure continued market access.
