Fire extinguishing equipment meant for use on ships covered by Council Directive No. 96/98EC of the European Union, regarding the equipment standards for sea-going vessels, does not need Dutch State Type Approval (Dutch: Rijkstypekeur) if it carries the conformity marking outlined in Annex D of that directive. This conformity marking is represented by the well-known steering wheel symbol.
